Elder Hoggan and Elder Young met with the Gimpl girls and moved back their baptismal date to January 11, 2014. There is so much to teach them. Angelina is making the best progress and was at church Sunday. Her entire family attended the ward party and had a fun time.
Weinachtsman came to the ward Christmas party! Santa can speak Bavarian, who knew? He had presents for the children and missionaries! Now the Elders have a ton of gifts under their Christmas tree. What an awesome ward! The missionaries are very grateful.
Elder Gunn, the district leader, and Elder Hoggan went on an exchange and had a great day. It got off to a slow start, but afterward turned amazing. Especially the week following that morning of low spirits.
These two missionaries went to Neuotting for a singing practice. They will be performing at a nursing home and other places. They learned Bavarian songs with lyrics that are very hard to understand, but cool.
A member of the ward in Rosenheim brought a friend to church two weeks in a row. He is from Pakistan and his name is Aakish. He is Muslim, but wants to be a Christian and loves the Christian religion. Aakish has read the Book of Mormon in English and now wants to do it in his native language - Urdu. He wants to become a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and will be meeting again with Elder Hoggan and Elder Young soon. Aakish will probably have the entire Book of Mormon read by their next appointment.
Elder Hoggan can skype on Christmas Day from a members home. He will be spending Christmas Eve and the day after Christmas with this family and Elder Young, of course.

Christmas Is Coming!
Elder Hoggan and Elder Young have visited the Christkindlmarkts on Pdays. They are cool stands lining the streets with various Christmas things for sale. Ornaments, candles, Christmas trees, etc. Kinderpunch is safe for children and missionaries to drink.
District meeting was awesome and everyone is giving their all to build the Kingdom of God.
Schwester Baguardo, a LA member from Equador, is married to an Italian and they are so kind to the Elders. Delicious South American food was made and enjoyed. They plan on attending the ward Christmas party Saturday.

Frau Wilkus is a lady that called the Elders from a pass-along card. She is 300 pages into the Book of Mormon and loves it. The missionaries will check back with her and see how this devout Catholic is coming along with her reading.

Real Rosenheim
Elder Hoggan and Elder Young had another great week. Time is flying! Thanksgiving was quiet and a normal day for these missionaries. A member family, that used to live in America, fed them a dinner to celebrate.
A poinsettia has been purchased and Elder Hoggan got his Christmas Tree up later that night. It's tradition and he's so grateful to decorate with a green, paper tree from home.
Through "Windows to Heaven", a lady was found and after several stops by Elder Young and Elder Hoggan, Frau Stuiber was finally at home. She seems to have awesome potential.
Arnold has had most of the lessons and he keeps commitments. He has been asked to live the Word of Wisdom and said he would! A date has been chosen for him to live by the program assigned and have Elders Hoggan and Young help him with that goal.
A train stop was missed, so these hard working Elders went "dooring". The next train wouldn't be by for two hours, but Elder Hoggan kept his spirits up by patiently ringing door bells with Elder Young.
After a few homes, a lady answered and she wanted to hear the message about families, help for our families, and Jesus Christ. She said she'd love to hear it! A cool experience.
Angelina and Michaela were taught a lesson on the Restoration using the cup visual. A cup tower is set up where four are on the bottom. They represent authority, prophets, apostles, and Jesus Christ. The next row has three cups and three other topics are used. Such as prayer and scriptures. This continues on to the top making a tower. When one of the subjects is spoken of, a cup is pulled. The bottom four signify the foundation of the true church of Christ. Just as when he was on the earth. It's a good visual for investigators to see.

Thanksgiving Time - GUT!
Elder Hoggan has been inspired with 25 things that missionaries should know. President Miles and Sister Miles instructed those in attendance at zone conference to continue working with members and encouraged them to show a DVD so members can set up their own mission plans.
Elder Young and Elder Hoggan were not transferred. Elder Seamons left for Vienna. Elder Jerman will train a new elder who will, no doubt, have a positive experience living with these tremendous missionaries.
Angelina is 14 and has set a baptismal date! She is from a part member family. Her sister, Michaela, may soon join her and has shown interest in being baptized into the church.
Victor was baptized! Elder Hoggan was a witness and felt blessed to be there Saturday. This was one of the best moments and will be unforgettable. Elder Hoggan said the opening prayer, heard Victor share his testimony following his baptism, and was reminded of the story of how the missionaries met up with Victor not so long ago.
Elder Hoggan was fed a Thanksgiving dinner after helping a family move. They played games and each person shared what they were thankful for.

A Nice Surprise!
Victor is getting baptized! Elder Hoggan knew it would happen one day and he couldn't contain his excitement regarding this great news!
A new change for "Hastening the Work" is that President Miles has given the missionaries one hour of internet access during the week. People are more willing to give out their email addresses than phone numbers.
Goals have been set for baptisms before the end of the year. This will require more obedience, more faith, more hope, and more miracles. Elder Hoggan and the others are optimistic and excited for the weeks ahead.
A less active family, the Familie Dos Santos, are meeting with Elder Hoggan and Elder Young. Now is their time to shine! The husband is a member, the not his wife. They have a lot of potential.
A cool miracle occurred when a gentlemen was given a Book of Mormon and gave his phone number to the Elders. This man didn't seem to have any interest upon the first visit, but more so on the second. Elder Hoggan and Elder Young realized that people are not always as they seem. Others can't be judged before getting to know them.
Elder Hoggan's funny story for the week was getting hit by a car. His sweet mother did have a heart attack and fell to her knees in gratitude. He was bumped into on a busy street and flopped on the front of the car. Got up and kept walking. Elder Hoggan says it was a good experience. Oh, my! He's got many, many angels with him constantly.
Goose was a delicious meal for Elder Hoggan! A kind member prepared the meal and filled up the missionaries. What a nice sister to give them such a feast they will never forget.

Window to Heaven
Elder Hoggan continues to have great weeks, even though the numbers don't show how much the work of the gospel is progressing in Rosenheim. He always has cool experiences.
He, Elder Young, and the ward mission leader have a new finding idea. It's "Window to Heaven" and they do it weekly. First is the prayer and then they look at the map of their area and talk about what stands out, what would be best.
Another prayer is given asking the Lord if that particular area is where they need to concentrate their labors on. If they feel good about it, they choose a time, pray again, and find out if that is where the Lord wants them to be.
A fourth prayer is offered when they are all agreement and they ask the Lord to please put people in their path. It's a simple process and has been amazing thus far.
Recently, the knew to go to Raubling. There were a fair, or good, amount of individuals there who wanted to hear the gospel message.
This is a humbling way to go about the Lord's work. It doesn't matter what we want or what the missionaries think would be best. It's all about what the Lord wants and miracles follow this awesome process.
Last week brought a mix of good and bad. Every appointment that feel through, was when Elder Hoggan and Elder Young discussed how things don't go according to plans. If life was always good, no one would appreciate those times. There is opposition in all things and happiness helps us overcome sadness.
Elder Hoggan met Bobi and Vezna. Bobi is preparing for the priesthood. They were baptized earlier this year and enjoy working with the amazing missionaries!
Sister Unterharer, a LA member, was expecting a baby, but the little one came too early and passed away. Her mother, an active member of the church, suggested she call the Elders for a priesthood blessing. No more than 5 minutes passed when the Elder called her! This all happened before Elder Hoggan arrived in Rosenheim, but now he is able to teach her the Plan of Salvation. Also known as the Plan of Happiness.
What a blessing this plan affords us! Life isn't easy, but we will be able to see loved ones again one day.
Elder Hoggan loves the members in Rosenheim and they can't believe how fortunate they are to have him in their midst! Last Sunday, was another amazing day for the Elders. A member family had them over and relationships are being established.
Each day, Elder Hoggan feels more and more at home. Ingolstadt was so kind to him and now Rosenheim is welcoming him with open arms. He is so thankful to be in this new area.
He closed his letter with, "Have an amazing week. Remember, sharing the gospel is a PRIVILEGE! Not a burden!"

Happy Halloween! Even though they don't really celebrate it here...
Elder Hoggan wishes everyone a very Happy Halloween! He didn't have any trick or treaters, but still had a blast by carving a jack-0-lantern from an apple. The festive Elders also wore orange ties that day.
That last week of October, plans with appointments were thwarted unfortunately. People forgot and cancelled. There are many potentials, but they need to meet with the Elders and have lessons to help them progress in the gospel. Next week will be more eventful.
Hard days come, but it wasn't always easy for Christ or the pioneers. Elder Hoggan closed his letter by reminding us that God is always there for us and we can't ever forget that.
Another monthly package has been sent to our favorite missionary, Elder Hoggan! He will receive candy, gum, Australian goodies, Thanksgiving treats, pictures, a Christmas tree, gum, muffin mixes, and a missionary stocking. Inside that Christmas sock is a very special card and gift from Grandpa and Grandma Turner.
At FHE, loved ones wrote letters to missionaries in our family. That letter for Elder Hoggan was recently mailed to Rosenheim. Enclosed, were emails from many friends and cousins who are also serving missions around the world.
Elder Hoggan's family still continues to love his cardboard cutout in the garage! He welcomes and greets us as we enter the house, making us smile. His thumbs-up reminds us to be happy and to return with honor. We are so very proud of him!

Week 2 in Rosenheim
More miracles!
After district meeting, the flood gates were opened. The elders found 5 potential investigators, handed out Books of Mormon, set up an appointment with someone on the street, taught a lesson to their apartment neighbors, and were given two referrals at church.
Herr Beyel let the missionaries in. He is very open, very nice, and an awesome man.
Service is one of Elder Hoggan's favorite things to do. In his pictures, he's always smiling and happy! He enjoys helping families move into their new surroundings and doing so reminds him of when we moved in 2011.
After forgetting a map and returning to their place, neighbors in the apartment next to the Elders, were taught and set up another appointment afterward. They are awesome and nice investigators.

1st Week in Rosenheim
Elder Hoggan is in a new area with a new companion! Elder Young is from Brigham City and attended USU. Before leaving Ingolstadt, goodbyes were given to Sabrina, Victor, and member families. They all loved Elder Hoggan! Now he lives with three other elders: Elder Young, Elder Jerman (Tremonton), and Elder Seamons (Preston, Idaho). The Alps are in his new area.

Service/Cuts/Contacts/Hans/Nieden
In June, there was so much rain and flooding that the missionaries were able to participate in Mormon Helping Hands.
For haircuts, Sister Wright takes care of the missionaries. She and her husband are serving from Salt Lake City, Utah.
Investigators Elder Hoggan and Elder Hans had are: Victor from Nigeria, Obinna, three French-speaking African ladies, Lara, Lana, Lori, Lydia Schmidt, Forat from Iran, Sabrina, Frau Luz, Rosemary, Florence, and Herr Ludwig.
New missionaries are "golden's" not "greenies".
Elder Hoggan and Elder Hans, who is from Ohio, visited the Hohenschwangau Castle and the Neuschwaastein Castle, or Cinderella's Castle in Disneyland. This fun P-Day was in July. P-Days are on Mondays.
On September 5, 2013, Elder Nieden became Elder Hoggan's new companion and Elder Hans was transferred to Austria, his last area before returning home. Ingoldstadt is still in good hands! Elder Nieden is from Montana.
The Alpine German-Speaking Mission is one of miracles! "It was such a crazy, cool week. Missionary work is the best and don't you ever forget it. I love you all soooo much :) Have a good week!!!!!!!!!! Here's to more miracles!"

Our 1st Week of Summer
Elder Hoggan begins by asking how his favorite people in the world are doing? He, too, is our favorite missionary ever. Cool things happened to him again!
Elder Russell M. Nelson spoke at a stake meeting and was joined by his wife, President and Sister Miles, and others. They spoke in English and had a translator. Sister Nelson shared an experience that her husband had had when he was asked, "Why are you different than the other surgeons?" Maybe it was because he didn't swear in the ER or maybe it was due to how he acted. Elder Nelson replied, "Because I know that the Book of Mormon is true."
Think about that. Basically any question we are asked concerning the church or the way we behave, can be answered with this response. Steve found that interesting. As LDS, we do act differently and people notice. Missionaries stand out and are given great experiences as they serve others.
Elder Nelson's talk was on raising children in the gospel. Steve is so glad that he was given the family he has and is more thankful every day. Primary children sang I Am A Child of God in German which was cool. Elder Nelson announced that something very big is going to happen that will change missionary work forever. The last time he said that, the missionary age was changed. The newest announcement will take place on June 23, 2013 and will be given in the mission presidents yearly seminar.
Two sweet investigators, Victor and Obinna, were found this week! They are from Nigeria and Elder Hans noticed them.Victor speaks English and has had contact with the church through a friend in Nigeria. As the missionaries taught, Obinna became very interested. He had contact with missionaries in Greece. A second lesson was held on the restoration and the Book of Mormon. Each were given a book and the restoration DVD. Victor would like to watch it again and maybe show it to his friends!! It is miraculous that they ran into each other.
Lori, another investigator, rode by on her bike and shouted, "Hey!!! You're the Mormons!" The Elders talked to her for a while and discovered that she is a previous investigator who was dropped. She has had contact with missionaries and wants more. Another appointment was scheduled.
Transfers came and went. Elder Hans was made a DL! These two missionaries will be staying together and they are happy about that.
The cookies they made were great and those they gave them to, loved them!
The weather has been strange in Germany. Record rainfall occurred last week, followed by sunshine, and rain again. Almost feels like Utah ;)

Victor would like to watch it again and maybe show it to his friends!! It is miraculous that they ran into each other.
Lori, another investigator, rode by on her bike and shouted, "Hey!!! You're the Mormons!" The Elders talked to her for a while and discovered that she is a previous investigator who was dropped. She has had contact with missionaries and wants more. Another appointment was scheduled.
Transfers came and went. Elder Hans was made a DL! These two missionaries will be staying together and they are happy about that.
The cookies they made were great and those they gave them to, loved them!
The weather has been strange in Germany. Record rainfall occurred last week, followed by sunshine, and rain again. Almost feels like Utah ;)
Elder Hoggan is grateful for all of the prayers and is sending some back home. He's thankful and expresses his love to everyone!

Steve's 19th Birthday
Steve's 19th Birthday was celebrated by Chinese, Iron Man 3, and a chocolate cake.
Steve celebrated his VIP day in Germany. He received 2 birthday cakes, a Bayern flag, and chocolates.
Unfortunately, Jared was unable to come with us and fill in. He "really wanted to be Steve for a day."
Mothers Day 2013
Mother's Day was memorable and Skyping sad super! We all spoke for over an hour and a half. Steve is well and happy! He asked that Jared Lambert take his place on his birthday which is May 15th.

Arrived Safe and Sound
After 17 hours, 2 stops (one in Detroit and Amsterdam), he lands in Munich with other missionaries. President and Sister Miles greeted them all and were so excited to see them! They sent us this email shortly after he arrived along with these pictures.
Dear family of Elder Hoggan-
We are delighted to tell you that Elder Hoggan arrived safely in Munich this morning. He is tucked away in bed now after a long day of orientation.
We thought you might enjoy these pictures from this evening. His new companion is Elder Hans, and they will be serving in Ingolstadt, Germany.
We are thrilled that he is here and are very impressed with his preparation and enthusiasm. He will be a great missionary. Thank you for all you have done to help him become the fine young man he is today. We love him already, and we will do all we can to help him grow as a missionary and have a successful mission. On His Way to Germany - Gut :D
Steve is finally out of the MTC and on his way to Germany! We got to talk to him on the phone a few times today and he sounded so good! He is excited and ready to head on to the next part of this big adventure. Below is a picture of Elder Hoggan and his companion Elder Eldridge from Provo. We love you Elder Hoggan!

1 Month.
Elder Hoggan has been on his mission for ONE WHOLE MONTH! Only 23 more to go. He is still patiently waiting in the MTC and is eager to get to Germany. He is loving the MTC experiences. He and his companion were just made Zone Leaders. He's very excited about this :) He absolutely loved General Conference and said, "Its so crazy how much more awake you are and how much more you pay attention when you're not in your pajamas on a comfy couch ;)" Elder Hoggan's Testimony is growing every single day. His German is slowly coming along, and he is loving every single second of this adventure. Steve Loves being a Missionary and knows this is where he is supposed to be.

What an exciting day that was! Except we had to wait 5 months... :)
Little did we know those 4 months would just fly right on by.
We were hoping it would come on a Wednesday... But ended up coming a day later on Thursday.

Elder Hoggan
This is so exciting! Elder Hoggan has been Called to Serve in the Alpine German-Speaking Mission and this blog is just going to be a fun, cute way to document Steve's adventures!
First a little bit about Steve's Mission.
His mission actually covers 5 different countries! These countries include Germany, Austria, Lichtenstein, Switzerland, and Northern Italy. Pretty much he is going to the coolest mission ever.
